Why we love Marketplace
The only reason I have an FB account anymore is for Marketplace.
I won’t lie, my favourite part of the day is waking up an hour before everyone else in my home, having a cup of coffee in silence (and darkness) and scrolling Marketplace for finds for Laurentian House.
So far, I have found beautiful coffee tables, a piano, garden stuff, furniture for the Terrasse and Salon, and art.
No doubt, there is a thrill of the find with me. I’ve always been like this- I will stop the car for every yard sale or antique shop on my way, or even better, a big red Value Village sign (when we lived in Toronto).
With a pandemic, one must get creative to fulfill this thrill.
And it’s been way too easy. E-transfers, contactless pickup, and a pickup truck all help keep me a happy shopper.
I’ll say it once, and probably a few more times again. I am of the spirit that all the good stuff already exists, you just need to find it. There’s also too much stuff out there, we don’t need to buy anything new.
You need an imagination to see past what something was, and what it can become.
I have a wish list for future coffee mornings. Some of what I’m still on the hunt for are: mirrors, farmhouse sinks, clay planters, copper pots and pans, vintage farm tools, and most importantly for this space to function- kitchen and service area items for private dinners + weddings success.
